Summer Youth Program Fund Trainings 2012

All trainings are scheduled from 9 a.m. to Noon with refreshments provided. You will receive helpful information and tools that will help you to build your skills as a youth development professional and implement a high quality summer program that makes a significant difference in the lives of the children and youth you serve!

Registration information for each session will be sent to you via e-mail approximately 2 weeks before the scheduled session. Space at each session is limited so sign up as soon as you receive notice that registration is open.

  • Date: Wednesday January 25th
    Topic: Academic standards assessment
    Content: This workshop will help you understand the world of academic standards, assessment, and evaluation. By the end of this session, you will have methods to help you determining both where youth should be and where they actually are academically and a set of strategies to help them improve their performance

  • Date: Thursday February 16th
    Topic: Cognitive Development Active Learning
    Content: In this workshop, the chance to investigate different stage theories of development takes place. Techniques of Active Learning will be demonstrated that you can put to work with your youth.

  • Date: Tuesday March 13th
    Topic: Integrating learning into your program: math, reading, STEM Curriculum, games, and resources
    Content: Have some fun while learning how to integrating math, reading and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). Come prepared to have fun while discovering new curricula, games, and resources to make learning enjoyable.

  • Date: Wednesday April 11th
    Topic: Managing Behavior, conflict resolution
    Content: One of the most mentioned topics by program staff are techniques for managing disruptive behavior. At this workshop, you will explore and practice conflict resolution, establishing structure and clear limits, and utilizing the techniques of Yoga to instill self discipline and order.

    Topic: Parent Engagement in program learning
    Content:Parent Engagement in program learning is a hot topic in the field of education and clearly a major contributor to children and youth doing well. But it seems so hard to bring it about. This workshop will help you think about new and effective ways to engage and involve parents as genuine partners in your program and its success.
